VLC not playing VOD except for sample.mp4

Our sample.3gp file plays fine through the simplevideostreaming example pages, and rtsp://172.16.10.XX:1935/vod/sample.mp4 works fine in VLC, but rtsp://172.16.10.XX:1935/vod/sample.3gp is not playing?

What do you see in the logs when you try to play in VLC? Run Wowza in stand-alone (/bin/startup.bat) to see log output in the console

How was this file encoded? Is the video codec VP6 or Spark?

What do you see in VLC Tools > Codec Info?

What does GSPot or FFmpeg report about the file?

It shouldn’t matter in this case, but add the mp4: prefix for good form:

rtsp://172.16.10.XX:1935/vod/mp4:sample.3gp

If it is actually in a subfolder it should be:

rtsp://172.16.10.XX:1935/vod/_definst_/mp4:subfolder/sample.3gp

Recommend Bigasoft Total Video Converter which can easily handle this issue for you.

One hour long should not be a problem.

Hi,

Can you provide more details?

This could be something simple, and unlikely related to file length.

The error logs in [install-dir]/logs may provide some insight, perhaps the file cannot be found or accessed properly for some reason?

Perhaps you could post any messages you see in there that are related to your file?

It does seem like an encoding issue. Take a look at this guide on How to encode video on demand content

That should help resolve the issue.

Richard, another question before I try this: The file we were trying to play was about 1 hour long, 875mb in size. Is there a cap to what can be played in Wowza? Because I did a few 10min recordings and it works fine. Currently doing another 1 hour recording to see if it will work or not.

Is your sample.3gp a wrong file, which has broken? have you tried other video?

I too have similar issue. I tried playing 10 minute videos, one SD and another HD and it played well over flash player.

But I tried playing 1 hr HD video and flash player complains that stream not found!

Any guesses, what went wrong?

sample.m4 was playable, but untitled.mp4 was not playable. The flash player doesn’t play anything nor it throws any error message.
