Linux - Wowza Engine stopped and wont restart without server reboot

Good evening,

We have an EC2 Ubuntu server with AWS and have Wowza 4.7.7 (build 20181108145350) and the server is still up and responsive but the Wowza Engine stopped working. The Wowza Engine Manager works and says that the engine is unresponsive. I remoted in via SSH and tried to restart the engine as a service and it doesn’t come back on. I manually rebooted the server and it started working fine on reboot. The error logs don’t show any errors, just info and warnings but nothing to state why the server stopped and wouldn’t start back up. Is there any other place I should look other than in /usr/local/WowzaStreamingEngine/logs/ ? I looked through the logs using the Engine Manager and they are the same thing as what I found in the logs file.

I know the server didn’t run out of disk space because I setup a secondary hard drive for error logs but the error logs folder is just 36 bits of data, nothing huge.

I would appreciate any guidance or help diagnosing this as we want to avoid these issues in the future.

Hello Frank,

It might be helpful to run the /usr/local/WowzaStreamingEngine/bin/startup.sh script manually from the command line when this occurs. It should give you more information about where in the startup script the process is hanging and it could be that the port binding is having issues if the ports were not released properly by the previously running service. This should show in the startup logging information.

Best regards,

Andrew

Thanks for the reply Andrew. We will give this a shot the next time this happens and let you know what the outcome is.

Please how do you solve it? I have same issue.
