Unsuccessful attempt at using .stream files for re-streaming

Hi

After reading https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-create-and-use-stream-files-in-wowza-streaming-engine-manager carefully, I have attempted to work on this with Wowza Streaming Engine 4.6 but unsuccessfully.

I have created a testing.stream file under my “Live” application and entered this unprotected stream: http://81.21.47.76/hls/live.m3u8 (Works with VLC)

When connecting, I used "Connect to default application instance: definst " and then configured the MediaCaster type to: applehls

In the incoming streams tab I unfortunately end up with a permanent “Waiting for Stream” status.

When I try to connect by using MediaCaster type to: RTP, in the incoming streams tab I see “Active” but when I go to test players->adobe rtmp, I enter the correct stream name “testing.stream” and in the status I see “testing.stream is now published/playing”, but I don’t get any video/audio. Same goes for the MediaCaster function “liverepeater”. I also tried to watch in all three cases via VLC but I get 404 not found errors.

Let me just note that I only had success with this rtmp://rtmp1.40e.hu/live//vtvszeged and by the mediacaster option : “liverepeater”. This played flawlessly on the test players function but on VLC it’s terrible! I get like a few frames here and there and then it stops completely, even if I do it locally (http://10.1.1.158:1935/live/testing.stream/playlist.m3u8)

Any thoughts? I am a beginner in this so please excuse my newbieness

Thanks in advance for your support.

It is possible the stream you are trying to ingest through the .stream file may not be using the best possible format for re-streaming. Check this article for more info:

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-encode-source-video-for-wowza-streaming-cloud

Please try this test:

Create a second live application and then get a stream going to it. Then grab the HLS URL from this new live application and use it as the source URL for the .stream file in the original live application. How does it work for you now?

I did the same test and there was no issues with this type of setup.

You could also try this test with a stream from the Demo JW Player:

http://wowza.jwplayer.com/live/jelly.stream/playlist.m3u8

If it works for you this means that the functionality of the .stream files is working correctly, and it would mean something going on with the source.

Hope this guides you in the right direction.

Regards,

Alex
