hi,
I’ve setup a new EC2 server and try to access a video via RTSP.
with VLC and my Android devices (2.x) I often don’t get sound,
video runs fine. when I restart the server sound is ok for the first
play, then no more. all access via WLAN, no ports blocked local or on the
server (UDP + TCP).
opening the RTSP URL from the demo page with VLC
rtsp://184.72.239.149/vod/mp4:BigBuckBunny_115k.mov
also has no sound.
do you still have sound opening the RTSP URL?
thank you for your feedback.
EDIT:
I did more testing and I don’t find a pattern when sound works and when it doesn’t. restarting the server sometimes helps and sometimes doesn’t.
when the sound is not played (with Android 2.1 device) I get this log entry:
RTPUDPTransport.bind[qr/definst]: Failure to bind to address: java.lang.NullPointerException: address
since this is an EC2 machine I don’t have a non-changing ip-addresses and I left the configuration default values:
0.0.0.0
127.0.0.1
Hi,
Did you take a Wowza EC2 instance or take an EC2 instance and the install Wowza yourself?
Jason
Hi,
Can you post the logs for me please.
Both the access and error log is possible.
I can play the stream using the link you provided with VLC and I get audio and video.
The stream plays without issue.
Jason
it is a Wowza instance with a monthly paid license:
AMI: WowzaMediaServer-s3-lickey-3.5.2.01-x86_64 (ami-7c868f08)
I’ve done new tests. this time sound is ok with streaming from my own EC2 server with
VLC (Win, 2.0.5)
X10 Mini Pro (Android 2.1)
Nokia C5 (Symbian)
I still don’t get sound opening the demo video
rtsp://184.72.239.149/vod/mp4:BigBuckBunny_115k.mov
in VLC (Win, 2.0.5).

Jason,
thank you very much for taking the time to help.
I guess I wrote that confusing: the link is from the Wowza RTSP demo page:

I just did another test and now I do get sound with VLC. it’s just like with my own server, sometimes sounds works and sometimes it doesn’t. tomorrow I’ll continue testing from some different internet connection and also do wireless tests. maybe it is my local connection that’s causing the problems.
again, I appreciate your feedback.
