I’ve spent the last 9 hours trying various combinations of streaming protocols to handle Desktop, iOS and Nexus 7 (newest Android w/o Flash). No combination successfully displayed video on all three. The closest solution was RTMP for desktop (Flash) and Apple HTTP for iOS.
I could get the new Android to work by placing the Apple HTTP stream code (http://[wowza-address]:1935/vod/mp4:sample.mp4/playlist.m3u8) in file field of JW Player with the provider of ‘http’. Then the desktop version simply downloaded the playlist file when attempting to play.
RTMP is much slower than HTTP Pseudo Streaming we’ve been using. If we can get HTTP to stream across devices we’ll keep Wowza. If not, it will only make sense to continue our subscription IF we need ‘live’ in the near future.
Does anyone know how we can use a combination of HTTP protocols to stream/pseudo stream with JW Player (or maybe we need a different player) and Wowza?
Thank you
