According to the DivX Labs post from yesterday (Friday, April 18, 2014), DivX Live is now available and mentions using Wowza to create the DASH HEVC stream. Any update on when this will be implemented on Wowza’s side? It seems odd that DivX would post it being available through Wowza before it’s ready.
What is DivX Live?
It is DivX’s simultaneous adoption of DASH and HEVC. DivX Live is a new feature built upon the adaptive streaming technology initially launched with DivX Plus Streaming. In technical terms, DivX Live implements the DASH protocol for Live streaming.
How to create a DivX Live stream?
Presently, the recommended way to create a DivX Live stream is by using a HEVC live encoder such as Wowza Media Server and Elemental Live. These live encoders are capable of capturing an incoming stream transmitted through protocols such as RTP, RTMP, TS stream, etc. and transcode the stream to DivX DASH compliant (Refer to the tables above) segments. The segments are usually encoded at different bit-rates to allow for adaptive streaming; following encoding, the segments are uploaded to a web server for a DivX client to download and playback.
