Hi, I’m newbie and this question sounds stupid…
Do we need to launch a LicenseUpdateServer even if I have unlimited license contract?
What does LicenseUpdateServer usually do? and for what? I’m assuming we don’t always need the LicenseUpdateServer.
Let me know if I’m miss anything.
My wowza version is 4.1.0, by the way.Thanks.
Hello there, and welcome to the Wowza support forum.
A successful connection with a Wowza licensing server is required for Wowza Streaming Engin software start-up and periodic check-in. This means your server must be connected to the Internet.
This applies to subscription or perpetual licenses that are installed on your own or hosted hardware, such as Amazon EC2 or other cloud servers.
Kind regards,
Salvadore
Hi Shige,
License check-in process isn’t really documented. I guess this would be my best attempt to explain it:
-
If it is at the start it will prohibit start-up.
-
In any case where it can’t connect the server will not function.
-
logs will indicate when failure has occurred
-
Randomly
Kind regards,
Salvadore
Hi,Salvadore
I just have another concern. Could you please clarify the below questions;
(1) How does wowza server behave when the connection to Wowza licensing server failed?. (such as retry count, interval…)
(2) What if the LicenserUpdateServer couldn’t reach to the license server after a failure in reconnection?
(3) What would happen if the LicenseUpdateServer reconnect after retrying. (can we confirm it on the log or anything?)
(4) How frequently LicenseUpdateServer check-in?
sorry for too many questions;
Thanks in advance.
Shige
