Detecting delay or packet loss on incoming RTMP stream

We use a home grown encoder for live streaming via RTMP to Wowza media engine. We often have to deal with intermittent Internet access issues that forces the encoder to queue or drop packets. I’m looking for a way to detect such situations at the Wowza end. We’re have Wowza transcoding to multiple renditions for ABR delivery via HLS. Since Wowza is decoding the incoming video it would know when there are gaps in the video. Is there a way to tell if an incoming RTMP stream is impacted?

BTW, I looked at the RTP jitter buffer but this not does not appear to apply to RTMP: https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-turn-on-an-rtp-jitter-buffer-and-packet-loss-logging-rtp-and-mpeg-ts
