Delay in Streaming

“Hello Wowza community! I’m currently using Wowza Streaming Engine version 4.8.12.1 with CCTV cameras connected via RTSP links. I’m encountering issues with stream optimization and am looking for guidance on adjusting keyframe or GOP interval settings. I’ve explored ‘Common’ and ‘RTSP Settings’ without success. Any insights or recommendations on where to find these settings for direct RTSP-linked cameras would be greatly appreciated.

Also should i be using the wowza transcoder? the cameras are streamed 24/7 but can sometimes take a while to load. i’m using a CDN hosted by AWS and it’s a dedicated server.

Thank you in advance!”

What are the issues that you’re running into? Are you transmuxing (converting from RTSP to a different streaming protocol, e.g. HLS)?

Depending on the usage, you may not need transcoding. Many IP cameras can be configured to broadcast at a certain bitrate, and you may be able to find a bitrate and quality that is sufficient for your case.

However if you’re streaming with high-quality, e.g. 1080p or higher, and use a high bitrate, AND if your audience can be everywhere (e.g. via sloppy Wi-Fi, or 4G/LTE in remote areas) then it may be a good idea to use transcoding to create an ABR stream.
