Connection to server from public IP fails

Hi,

I am building a virtual classroom with audio/video features. I installed Wowza Media Server and was be able to run VideoChat example coming with the installation package. However, when I tried to connect to server by using my public IP address, I am getting some connection errors.

I changed the settings of router and forwarded port#1935 to the computer where the Wowza server is running. My OS is Windows Vista and also I opened incoming and outgoing port#1935 in Windows Firewall, but I still cannot connect to the media server.

In addition, I made the simple test that Wowza installation guide suggests: I opened my browser and typed “http://[my Public IP]:1935”, it cannot connect to server. I donot know why I can connect to it by typing “http://localhost:1935” to Wowza Media Server but using public ip.

Any suggestion will be helpful. Thanks.

do you also run a webserver on this machine ? and if so can you connect to it using public IP address ?

windows machines with together with certain routers suffer loopback problems and this prevents you from connecting when using public IP address from within your network (there are several fixes depending on your router make ) but it does not prevent anyone from outside your network connecting, If you can test from outside of your network and see if wowza works ?
