Android live streaming with mp3 audio?

I’m trying to get live streams to Android devices working. My encoding device is a laptop running FME. FME by itself does not support AAC. I can add AAC encoding if I buy a plugin for FME, but a lot of my customers aren’t going to want to do that.

The docs I’ve looked at on the web suggest that mp3 audio should also be accepted by Android devices. Can anyone tell me whether:

  1. It is indeed possible to play h.264/mp3 streams on Android devices, or

  2. If there’s a way to add AAC audio to FME without paying $250 for a plugin?

If it is indeed possible, I’d welcome advice as to what I’m doing wrong in my setup. I can play my RTSP stream in vlc but not on Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S family).

My RTSP URL is:

rtsp://184.73.200.27/iphone/teststream.stream

I’m not sure, but according to some reports, mp3 to android might not work. You can use VLC, at least for testing and comparison.
