Which server better for transcoder ?

Hi,

I am having difficulty in choosing to buy one server dedicated to transcode.

I’m considering one of HP server hardware as follows:

HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8

- Processor(s): (1) Intel® Xeon® E5-2609 (2.40GHz/4-core/10MB/6.4GT-s QPI/80W)

- Cache Memory: 10MB (1x10MB) Level 3

- Memory: 12GB (3x4GB) PC3L-10600R (DDR3-1333) Registered DIMMS

has anyone ever used this server to transcoder?

Maximum process input stream? Maximum output stream it can handle ?

Thanks.

The E5 LGA2011 processor is ideal if you want two processors on the same motherboard. If you only plan to use one CPU, go with LGA 1155. An E3-1230 V2 Xeon will be cheaper, faster, and use less power.

Hi

You can find the benchmark for hardware based on transcoding needs here,

https://www.wowza.com/docs/wowza-transcoder-performance-benchmark

If you choose to use hardware listed in the link above be sure to that you’re getting the correct hardware as some CPU’s have very similar names.

Hi

The options would be :

Server 1: QuickSync

Server 2: CUDA

Server 3: default

Server 3: CUDA

Server 6: default

The choice is completely up to you and depends on what technology you are comfortable with and/or how much you’re willing to spend.

Thanks for all your helps !

But if I use this server for transcoder, how many input stream it can transcode into 4 different bitrate? has anyone tried yet?

My Boss want a server can transcode 5 stream into 4 difference bitrate (5x4 stream) (50~70% CPU)

Thanks.
