OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread|at java.lang.Thread.start0

Hello,

I installed WowzaStreamingEngine-4.5.0 on Ubuntu Linux 16.04, 24Gb RAM Dual Xeon server. It works only for several hours and barely doing any video broadcasting.

At some point it stops to respond and in logs on each request I see this:

Unexpected exception.: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread|at java.lang.Thread.start0

I collected logs, heap dump and sent it to support@wowza.com

Aleksey

So, any idea what is going on ? I tried Wowza on Windows and it works ok. On linux I updated default JRE to the latest one but still have OutOfMemoryError

It should be something related with Java settings or OS settings, I tried to change ulimits as well. Nothing, Wowza stops working almost immediatelly

Hello,

I am replying to your ticket but wanted to post here in case others come across issues with Ubuntu 16.04

It has been recently confirmed as a bug in the systemd package. In 16.04 an arbitrary thread limit was introduced which broke a number of things, including Wowza Streaming Engine. A report of the bug can be found here

https://bugs.launchpad.net/charms/+source/percona-cluster/+bug/1578080

Thankfully this has been acted upon by the systemd maintainers and the latest systemd release should now be available in your package manager. Our QA department have confirmed that this is now working properly with Wowza.
