MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile

Hi I have video created on a Tandberg Content server which won’t display video on a Wowza stream. The video is encoded as MPEG4 part2 (Simple Profile)

VLC shows it as amp4v fourcc encoding

Should this format play or does it need to be in another format eg MPEG4 part 10?

Thanks

Steven

ChrisR is correct. At this time we only support the exact video/audio codecs supported by Flash. No transcoding.

Charlie

I think it has to be MPEG4 part 10

Richard

Yes, it has to be MPEG 4 Part 10 (aka H.264 or AVC1).

Charlie

Are you planning to support MPEG-4 part 2 ? Are there some technical or legal issue problems ?

Hi Charlie,

I am little bit in a harry, because I’m using Wowza trial version and trying to find an acceptable technical solution for my web application. That’s why I need to know Wowza server features before buying the full license

Why Wowza server doesn’t support MPEG-4 part 2 but supports MPEG-4 part 10, as I know part 10 is more difficult than part 2. And it is very important for me: will Wowza support MPEG-4 part 2 for re-streaming in next version of its server?

As far as I know the restriction is really in the clients. I don’t think the Flash players support MPEG4p2. They support h.264 (aka AVC1) and VP6 and I think that’s it.

The Wowza server doesn’t do any video transcoding at all.
