The newly-released Expression Encoder 4 Pro can do both live encoding and offline conversion to H.264. The live encoding is wrapped as IIS Smooth Streaming.
One great thing about EE4 is that it costs only US $50, which is much less expensive than Wirecast or Adobe’s Flash Media Live Encoder (…once you add on the MainConcepts AAC plugin for QuickTime compatibility, which is important for some of my customers).
Will Wowza be able to accept EE4 as a live encoder source?
We can accept files from this encoder but not a live stream. This encoder sends out pre-segmented content which we cannot currently accept.

For video on demand, we can accept both regular .mov files as well as pre-segemented .ismv files from the encoder.
For live, we cannot accept the output from this encoder. We do not have short term plans to add support for pre-segmented live content from this encoder.
Charlie
That we probably cannot deal with. We would need each stream in a different ismv file.

No update. MS Expression Encoder doesn’t work for live streaming to Wowza.
Richard
No short term update. Check out wirecast. VLC is free and works too

No, that article is about how to utilize the production ready Silverlight players that come with Expression 4 Encoder to playback smooth streams from Wowza.

Okay, thanks for the info.
For video on demand: EE4 packs multiple video streams into a single .ismv file. How does Wowza deal with these multi-stream files?
IIS 7 does the “multi-bitrate-pre-segmenting-in-one-file” when you choose the archive on server.
The encoder generates one .ismv file per bit-rate/resolution, when you encode on the client side.
Okay. Do you have plans to implement support for this pre-segmented stream?
When you say that Wowza can accept files from this encoder are you referring to the .ismv files that are saved during a live encoding session, or the basic .mp4 files it creates from an offline encoding job?
Okay, thanks for the info.

Hi, guys. Any updates on live streams via Expression Encoder?
Does this article mean that MS Expression Encoder 4 is finally supported with Wowza Media Server for the live streaming?

How about ViewCast Niagara Pro II Encoders? Currently, we are using them for the MBR Flash live streaming with Wowza server and they work fine. Can we use their profile ADAPTIVE_SS (Smooth Streaming) with Wowza server? This profile works fine with the MS IIS Smooth Streaming server.
Sorry to bump this topic.
Just wanted to ask about possible support for this encoder.
I have FMLE up and running perfectly, but would also like to have a (cheap) alternative for Live streaming.
I’m interested in EE live streaming because of the GPU acceleration. What alternatives for GPU encoding do I have with Wowza?
