Kaltura CE4 and Wowza

Hiii there,

I am feeling good after being a part of this community. Wowza goes good. Its my first post here, please help me out.

I use kaltura as my cdn and was getting live stream with red5. Now, I want to give wowza a try. Actually, I dont know how to integrate wowza with kaltura Ce4 . Is there any guide like we have for kaltura-red5 ? Has anyone done wowza-ce4 documentation ? Is there anything to do with symlinks? I created symlinks but that did not work. Below are the steps I performed==

1.) installed WMS

2.)configured it for kaltura. Chaged urls with live

3.) started WMS

But I was unable to perform rtmp streaming and was getting media not found. I checked wms access logs and found that wms was getting entries from my data dir but after that it was getting disconnected. Here is my log output

The RTMPT protocol can be fragile in Flash player, prone to disconnect when network conditions are sketchy. The “client connectionClosed [950562541] pingtimeout” is Wowza closing connections that have disappeared already.

That is how it works. StreamType “live” plays live streams, StreamType “default” plays video on demand.

Hi neuron005,

Can you provide more detailed information?

What applications do you have.
What are the StreamTypes, and StorageDir for these applications.
What URL do you publish to.
What URL are you trying to play.
What works, what doesn’t work.
What error messages are you getting.

I suspect it has something to do with live vs. vod. Your flash app should publish to live. Somehow these streams published to live will be recorded, either with a *record StreamType or using a Wowza module to record. To play the recorded VOD files back you need to use the VOD application, not the live one.

I was just missing something. My application was searching for oflaDemo but there was no oflaDemo present. So, I created oflaDemo application and copied contents of vod into it and also created in conf folder. DONE! rtmp and live stream is ok. But the issue is that my webcam records and and live records should go to /kaltura-dir/webcam but it is getting stored into /wowza-dir/content. If I change the path of storage dir in Application.xml ,will that work?

Thanks that worked out…

There is an issue I have found. With default profile my video that is live also gets recorded and saved. To prevent it I changed to “live” and It does not store live video. But it results in rtmp no working problem. That is. I checked in error logs of wowza that it was trying to find the video but was looking in some other directory. I created my symlinks as

ln -s /opt/kaltura/web/content /usr/local/WowzaMediaServer/content and

ln -s /opt/kaltura/web/content /opt/kaltura/web/content/webcam

When the profile is default it can easily look for the videos stored in webcam folder but when it is changed to “live” it can not find the media and shows “media not found error”

But what about rtmp then? changing stream type to plays live (cheers) but that also results in stopping the rtmp stream! Please throw some light on it.

5.) What works:

When I set to default. Both livestream and vod work. Webcam recording works. That is ok. But live stream also gets recorded which I do not want. Changing stream type to live solves my one purpose (live streaming and that is not recorded)

What does not work:

If I change stream type to live , rtmp stops working .

6.) I am getting media not found error with live, when I do rtmp and in error console it is like

WARN server comment 2012-01-16 01:04:15 - - - - - 135139.222 - - - - - - - /content/entry/data/4/267/0_7t9sde4z_0_gsgfa28x_1 open: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /opt/kaltura/web/content/webcam /content/entry/data/4/267/0_7t9sde4z_0_gsgfa28x_1.flv (No such file or directory)

When I change stream type to “live” it starts looking for content in /content/entry/data/4/267 instead of ${kaltura-install}/web/content/webcam

Have I done a mistake?

Problem Solved

I got a solution for it. For all uploaded videos and webcam recorded videos I am using vod and for live streams , using live. Worked out. Earlier vod was serving both rtmp and live. Thanks for your support till now
