How to secure a stream from WowzaStreamingEngine and VLC ?

I am trying to understand how to secure a stream from Wowza Streaming Engine and a regular player as VLC. Setting up HTTPS is a good start but then how to authenticate the user? The Secure Token seems to me usable only with JWPlayer or other.

Is there any other simple method to authenticate the user like digest authentication? Or other method to secure such connection?

I probably figure it out. I can generate the SecureToken’s hash by myself and add it at the end of the URL to be send to Wowza.
