How to interpret PTS values logged by encoder

I’m trying to match up presentation time stamp (PTS) values in an incoming MPEG TS UDP stream (being output by VLC or FFMPEG) to those logged by the Wowza encoder.

I’ve followed the post https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-debug-encoder-multi-bitrate-keyframe-alignment to enable debugKeyFrameTimecodes and can see PTS/DTS values being logged for the key frames but they don’t appear to match those of the original MPEG TS UDP input, however they do seem to be somehow based on the input because when restarting the input the same PTS/DTS are logged.

How should the PTS/DTS values logged by Wowza be interpreted? Can I expect them to match the values in the input stream?

Thanks,

Matt
