Dear Sir,
Can I ask if it is possible to configure the Wowza media server to do RTSP/RTP multicast streaming?
I know it supports two types of transport mode, udp-unicast and tcp-interleaved.
I’m wondering if it also supports multicast. What I mean is RTP multicast when it works for RTSP server.
Thanks in advance.
Phillip Lee.
Hi,
Multicast is supported with the use of the PushPublish function, detailed here:
You’ll find a section there regarding the Realtime Transport Protocol.
What happens is you configure this to recognize your incoming stream, via a map file,
and in turn the stream is re-broadcast as a multicast rtp stream. This can be played by
rtsp player such as VLC and QuickTime.

Hi Brian,
Yes, there’s more information here for Wowza Media Server 3.6.x users:
You need to click on the “AddOn Request Form” link on that page to get the AddOn.
The Plugin/AddOn is free, but you have to request using the form.
Best regards,
Daren
Dear Sir,
Thank your for your quick reply.
I have another question. In your answer, I got to know ModulePush is required for the RTSP/RTP multicast streaming. I have purchased a copy of Wowza media server 3.6.2.
Does it support ModulePush? Or do I need to purchase some AddOn package?
Thanks in advance.
Phillip Lee.
Now that the AddOn is no longer available what would be the process to send a Wowza originated live stream to a multicast enabled network? Does that functionality still exist?
