HLS / Smooth Live streams thumbnails

Hello,

We are receiving live streams from one of our partners, already wrapped up in either HLS or Smooth Streaming.

Our partner is also using Wowza, but is not willing to implement a “snapshot / thumbnail” function on his side. For a new project, we would need to take a snapshot of each of the live streams every 10 seconds.

I’ve done quite some research here and it appears that the only way around would be to use the Transcoder AddOn, but that is not really what we want… Would there be a possibility to kind of mount an “Edge” server that could take snapshots on each live stream we’re receiving in HLS?

If not, would it be possible to use it with the Transcoder AddOn?

Alex,

ModuleCreateSnapShot does not involve the Wowza Transcoder

Note that Wowza cannot ingest HLS or smooth streams, even from another Wowza server.

If the source is HLS or Smooth, Wowza does not support that in any way.

Hi Richard,

Does that mean that for live it will not work if the stream is in HLS or Smooth Streaming and that we would need an RTMP stream?
