Hi,
We are planning to implement wowza for our IPTV services.
I have about 1000 viewers and 20 live streams and two vod.
Can you please tell me the hardware requirement of server for running a this with 2mb bitrate per stream
Also please recommend best suitable linux operating system.
waiting for response asap.
Thanks in advance.
regards and Thanks
Harry
Harry,
We generally recommend a late-model dual quad cpu, 4-8g ram, 64bit OS and 64bit Java JDK, and 1-4gbs nic. For heavy vod you might also use a RAID 0 or 1+0 disk array, but with two vod assets, it might not be necessary.
The limiting factor is usually bandwidth. And you should subtract 20% for overhead. So a 1gbs nic gets about 800mbs throughput, which can handle about 400 clients streaming 2mbs stream.
Note that 2mbs will be playback choppy, start and stop, for many clients. You should consider ABR streaming (covered in all the tutorials) or a lower, more optimal bit rate.
