Hi,
We’re starting to look into moving to using H265 now it is more widely supported by the latest versions of browsers.
We have successfully configured a live application with CMAF and have verified that live stream using h265 and CMAF is working well.
The problems come with playback of the recordings of the live streams. It seems that when configuring any type of VoD application in WSE only allows HLS or DASH, apparently no support for CMAF. Fair enough, the benefits of CMAF seem to be mainly aimed at live streaming to clients using HLS and DASH.
However, playing an h265 VOD using HLS causes problems as Wowza will only encode the HLS segments as MPEGTS, with no option to use fMP4.
Note that Safari only support h265 with fMP4.
The current situation means that h265 is only useful for live streaming WITHOUT recording.
When will Wowza fully support h265/fMP4 for VoD playback?
Thanks,
Jo
