I’ve spent hours reading through documentation on this, and while I’m sure I read how to do it, I probably just got lost somewhere along the line because I’m new to wowza, so bear with me
I feel like this has got to be a super basic question, but I’m pushing a 1080 stream from wirecast to my wowza trial account (not sure if this matters).
I’m using the default wowza player on my page, and it just shows about 6 different bitrates to choose from on the player for playback, the highest being just shy of 3000 kbps.
I’d actually like to change those presets around, and actually increase the max bitrate to match that of my source (wirecast).
For the life of me, I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ve watched a couple tuturial videos such as the one listed here: https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-do-adaptive-bitrate-streaming but my wowza portal looks nothing like this. I’ve gone around the transcoder section of my stream, and I see some qualities listed but they say they have no targets. I’m not even sure if that’s the area I’m supposed to be in lol
My apologies again if this is a dumb question, but some of the tutorials assume I’m more familiar with wowza than I actually am.
It looks like you are using Wowza Streaming Engine since the article you are referring to is for Wowza Streaming Engine? To change the bitrates please review this article under, “Configure an Encoding Preset” then step 3 to change the bitrate.
This could be an issue with a couple of things. Without looking at logs and your Wirecast encoding information it would be hard to pinpoint the issue source.
The two possibilities that you can check are:
Make sure keyframes on Wirecast are setup correctly. Refer back to the article for encoding, and make sure that you are doing a 2 second keyframe interval.
If you are using Wowza Transcoder, make sure that there are enough resources on your system for live transcoding of the 1080p stream from Wirecast on the Wowza server.
If you would like to get a more thorough response, you are welcome to open a new support ticket here.

Also I would recommend reading this article on Encoding. Link to article

Wow thank you so much for the info. I read over the article on encoding and man that was some great info on bitrates!
Looks like I figured it out! I had to go to the advanced area of the wowza website and select Transcoders.
Which brings me to my next question if you don’t mind…
I’ve noticed that when I playback my test stream, it loads fine and plays for a while then just stops. Reloading the page/player starts playing again.
I’m not getting any buffering issues, and it seems to happen with any stream quality I choose (for the record, the PC doing the streaming has an upload capacity of 50mbps…
In wirecast, the connection remains stable to the wowza service, and doesn’t appear to be dropping any info.
Any ideas what would cause the wowza player to stop playing? This happens on both the wowza generated html page as well as the player added on my personal site.
Edit: Could this be a browser issue? I have only tried chrome with the wowza player. Because I’m on a trial, and I’ve done so much learning this week, I don’t have too much time left on the trial to watch/test feeds for extended periods of time to test reliability
