Audio stream from VLC to Wowza to JWplayer

I an wanting to use VLC on my server machine to play various playlist of music. Stream that to the Wowza server on the machine then send that out to JWPlayer on my site, as like a radio kind of thing.

I am new to doing this audio stream.

Can anyone explain simply how i can do this. I have see these lines of code for VLC but dont know what to do with them or how to set them up for what i want.

Then what kind of application do i need to have setup in wowza to receive the stream? i have a live and an vod, that work great. i want this to be a live stream just didnt know if i needed a different app or not.

what kind of stream is best coming out of vlc? will be using mp3, wav, and wma files… and will be using rtmp to stream out of wowza.

And do i use the same setting in jwplayer that i do now for a live video stream?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

You’ll have to setup VLC to encode/stream to Wowza using one of the supported types. See the specs page under “Compatible Live Encoding”: https://www.wowza.com/media-server#specifications Start by playing with the VLC GUI. And you have seen our VLC command lines.

You can publish RTMP and RTSP to a Wowza live app. Or via MPEG-TS.

Mp3 is supported, wav and wma are not.

Here is the JWPlayer tutorial: https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-use-longtail-jw-player-5-with-wowza-media-server

Be sure to read the User Guide.

We do have this VLC guide:

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-use-vlc-as-a-live-stream-encoder-with-wowza-media-server-mpeg-ts

After you start a stream in VLC using this method, you will follow the mpeg-ts tutorial to configure Wowza, start and playback the stream:

https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-publish-and-play-a-live-stream-mpeg-ts-based-encoder
