Hello Wowza Community! I hope you find value in today’s post: Our updated RTSP explainer covers how the protocol works and how Wowza Streaming Engine ingests camera feeds for HLS, LL-HLS, MPEG-DASH, and WebRTC delivery. The guide covers: - How RTSP, RTP, and RTCP work together - When RTP runs over UDP or interleaved TCP - Default ports, URL format, and RTSPS and SRTP encryption - New settings in Wowza Streaming Engine 4.12 for cameras behind NAT - Separate UDP port ranges for RTSP ingest and WebRTC on the same server - Persistent camera connections, ONVIF discovery, and stream testing with VLC - Repackaging RTSP as WebRTC for sub-second browser playback IP cameras still rely on RTSP, but browsers can’t play it, and NAT, firewalls, and port conflicts often get in the way of a working stream.
