Wowza live streaming from Exterity SDI encoder.

Heres the setup.

Exterity encoder on my LAN

SDI input

output to

MPEG Standard: MPEG-2 / MPEG-4

Bit Rate Mode: constant

Display Resolution: CIF

Video Bit Rate: 256 Kbps

Audio Bit Rate: 48 Kbps

Stream settings

UDP

Destination Address: 10.11.10.28 (my local PC where Wowza is installed)

Destination Port:49501

Plays fine in VLC using udp://10.11.10.28:49501

When I use Wowza Media Server Pro 1.6.0 to directly connect to the Exterity stream it seems to connect ok just not render any Flash video. (connecting Wowza via VLC to the streaming encoder seemed a confusing overhead!)

I used the settings from this page for the RTP stream config

But I check the the logs below and it seems to indicate a codec issue?(depacketizer) but nothing on the forums covers this. Any ideas?

No, I’m pretty sure not. Flash supports audio codecs NellyMoser, Speex, MP3, AAC, and I think now G-711 mlaw. It would be best to transcode to AAC.

Hi wildmalc,

The Exterity Pro Encoder is an MPEG-4 Part 2 encoder so it will not work with Wowza (even the TS version) as only the new H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) is supported by Flash.

The new Exterity HD encoder should be supported and myself and Exterity will be testing it very shortly…

Kind regards

Rich

VLC will of course work fine!

thanks for the reply.

Shame I was hoping to reuse my existing Exterity directly.

I will have a further bash at getting it to play via VLC instead.

Question. Many Exterity encoders can only encode MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio. Is this compatible with Flash players? Could it cause problems at the client side if sending H.264 + MPEG-1 L2 audio? Thanks.

Thanks a lot. Yes, it would, but not possible. I guess with Transcoder AddOn it would work out nicely.
