### How Is WebRTC So Fast?

WebRTC’s [ultra-low latency](https://www.wowza.com/blog/ultra-low-latency) delivery clocks in at sub-500 milliseconds, making it the fastest available [streaming protocol](https://www.wowza.com/blog/streaming-protocols). But how is it able to beat so many other protocols to the punch?

At its core, WebRTC is a peer-to-peer protocol. In other words, it doesn’t funnel data through a central server before reaching the viewer’s device, essentially cutting out the middleman.
