# Transcoder question on edge servers

We currently host our own wowza server on a VM. Because our customer demand has increased we would like to set up edge servers in EC2 to handle more viewers. My questions is do we need to purchase the transcoder add-on for all the edge servers as well or just the origin server?

Hello,

If you are transcoding your incoming streams on the origin server, there is no need to enable the transcoding addon on the edge servers as well. You can have your edge servers relay the transcoded streams from the origin servers.
