We have upcoming a live streaming event. We will be publishing a single 500kbps Standard Def (SD) RTMP based stream. We need to reliably support 6,000 simultaneous viewers. Several hours long in duration.
Using Wowza, can a single dedicated server support such an event? Or would it be recommended or necessary to have a multi-server origin/edge repeater configuration?
If yes, what hardware configuration would be recommended for the dedicated server(s) running Wowza?
I have seen Richard’s (rrlanham) reply 03-07-2011 re: “Dedicated media streaming server hardware” at the following link:

And Dobrushin’s reply 06-01-2010 re: “server hardware requirements, bandwidth etc” at the following link:
Can anyone provide a better or updated reference link(s) than the 03-07-2011 and 06-01-2010 reply links above?
We are first exploring our own dedicated server(s) as we support events of this nature on an ongoing basis.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
