# live-record MP4 file corrupt?

I have configured Wowza to record a live broadcast into an MP4 file. Here is the resulting file:

When I play it using VLC or JWPlayer, the player reports the file length as 9,598+ hours, which, if you download the file will notice is absolutely wrong.
With the time index screwed up like that, it’s impossible to seek in the file.

P.S. Can you recommend a tool to examine the contents of MP4 files? Something that will show the codec details, number of streams, their metadata, etc.

Using Elecard’s StreamEye to analyze the MP4 file generated by Wowza. It shows:

Notice the discrepancy between the framerate declared and real.

I’m not sure what that item in the report means. Does the video play in Flash or other clients, either directly or streamed through Wowza?

There was a fix related to recording in a recent patch. Apply this patch and test again:

Be sure not to move the file before it is done recording.

The video plays fine live … in fact you can go ahead and watch it live right now:

The recorded file plays fine in both VLC and Flash, however they are not seekable (Even if I wait until the entire file downloads or if I’m playing from a disk file) due to the corrupt time index.

patch 11 appears to have fixed the issue.
As a paying customer, I would appreciate it if Wowza Media informed its customers whenever an update is released to the software (ie. by email).
