Is it okay to have your edges on load balancing running Linux and your Origin server running Windows?

Yes, that is no problem, but they should be the same version of Wowza.

Is the Windows server properly tuned?

Is the network access (bandwidth) the same for each?
You can use Wowza load test tool on each and JMX/JConsole to monitor the server and system tools to monitor network usage.

Question to rrlanham actually, if i may,
Hi,
We have configured a windows and Linux box for wowza streaming, it has come to notice that the wowza for Windows supports 325 concurrent streaming connections while the Linux box supports 1000. The VMs are identical except for the OS. Is there any thing we can do to increase the connection size on Windows Wowza server?
Your help will be highly appreciated.
