According the [Wowza Streaming Engine Specifications](https://www.wowza.com/products/streaming-engine/specifications) VP8 is “Compatible Encoding Input” for RTMP, RTSP and MPEG-TS.

Does it mean that Wowza Streaming Engine supports VP8 codec for RTMP? Is there any way to send VP8 over RTMP at all?

I tried to produce vp8 rtmp stream with fmle and ffmpeg with no success, ffmpeg said that “Video codec vp8 not compatible with flv”, FMLE only supports VP6.

Hello there. According to the Wowza Streaming Engine release notes:

> Wowza Streaming Engine 4.5.0 supports the WebM file format and codecs. WebM streams are compressed with the VP8 and VP9 video codecs and the open-source Vorbis and Opus audio codecs. Your live applications in Wowza Streaming Engine can ingest WebM-encoded source streams or you can transcode an H.264-encoded source stream to the WebM format. For more information, see [How to transcode live streams to WebM for MPEG-DASH playback](https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-transcode-live-streams-to-webm-for-mpeg-dash-playback).

> Note: The WebM file format and codecs were supported as a technology preview feature in previous versions of the Wowza Streaming Engine software. We recommend that you update the software to Wowza Streaming Engine 4.5.0 for the best results.

You can read a bit more about this in the [Wowza Streaming Engine user guide](https://www.wowza.com/resources/WowzaStreamingEngine_UsersGuide.pdf)

Best,

Salvadore
