As the provider of one of the premier HLS streaming solutions I thought you guys might be interested in something we’ve been cooking up 🙂

[HTTP Live Streaming Client SDK for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8](http://www.3ivx.com/technology/windows/metro/http_live_streaming.html)

Basically, the HLS Client SDK allows a Windows 8 App developer to add HLS support to their Windows 8 app with just a single line of code. After this the XAML MediaElement and HTML video tags used in the app’s markup will just automatically support HLS m3u8 urls.

We think its quite cool as people can now use just one server to serve just one type of stream to all modern mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8), and this will also cover Mac OS X and Windows 8 desktops too.

We’ve been specifically testing it with Wowza, as we are getting a lot of interest from Wowza users

And pleasingly, many of our beta testers are also discovering that HLS to Windows 8 just works better than Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming, which is the normal way to stream to Windows 8.

Anyway, if anyone else is interested in getting access to the SDK, just submit a request on the page I linked to, and we’ll get it out to you

Any questions, please ask 🙂

Thankyou

Hello.

So this is a solution for Cupertino streaming to Windows devices? Can you tell me how this relates to your “3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.5” codec? You said, “Compared to Apple MPEG-4, 3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.5 encodes up to twice as fast, producing the same quality video at half the size.”

Which streaming servers support this codec?

Does your player SDK work with regular H.264 streams?

Why should we have to develop apps for media playback? It’s stupid.

Give me native playback (read: native media player on the device) and I’m a happy person.

RTSP = old bb / android

HLS = iOS, droid 3+, bb10 (untested)

RTMP = a lot of other stuff

Windows phone? Grrrrrrr.

Hi,

You could use the [information given here](http://blogs.msdn.com/b/msgulfcommunity/archive/2013/05/08/http-live-streaming-hls-on-windows-phone.aspx) as a starting point.

Right,

An app developer basically includes our HLS Adapter in their app package, adds one line of code to their app, and then their app supports HLS (Cupertino Streaming) as if it were natively handled by the OS, right down to hardware accelerated audio and video decoding

Its not really related to our MPEG-4 codec, but it is related to our embedded media architecture (LibPlayer) that we’ve been developing for the last few years

The player SDK supports H.264 and HE-AACv2, and we plan to add support for Dolby Digital Plus and MP3 audio

Currently HLS is working on Windows 8 for x86 & x64, and Windows RT for ARM. Windows Phone 8 support will be coming in September.

In theory, all HLS compatible streaming servers are supported by our Client SDK as long as they stream H.264 and AAC

(We do have HLS clients for other platforms, but they’re not as interesting as Windows 8 ;))

We currently implement HLS Version 3, version 4 is coming

Oh great… Can you tell those bozos at the BBC this. They’re coming up with all sorts of lame excuses as to why they don’t want to develop an iPlayer app for WP8.
