# How to configure wowza to use SSL Certificate?

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to generate a self signed SSL Certificate as per [this](https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-create-a-self-signed-ssl-certificate), however when I try to check and troubleshoot if it works or not by following [this](https://www.wowza.com/docs/How-to-troubleshoot-SSL-certificate-configuration), I got stuck at “Verify the certificate’s CN value”. Well, what I want is to learn how to configure wowza to use a self signed certificate after creating it as first link I’ve mentioned.

CN means “common name” and is referring to the name of the server. This is basically saying make sure the Cert hostname matches the actual server’s hostname. Hope this makes sense.

We would need to take a look at your configuration to confirm you have everything setup properly.
