# History playback

What would be the best approach to store recorded media for later playback, where a user can make a request for any period of time? I guess one could record one-day video file and then use vod. But what if the stream will be interrupted? Any suggestions?

Hi,

You could look at using nDVR and then provide options for fetching streams from particular points in time. We don’t recommend setting a DVR recording window greater than [30 hours though](https://www.wowza.com/docs/wowza-ndvr-quick-start-guide#recordingLength) for performance reasons. It is possible to configure nDVR to version streams as an archive method, so that would allow you to reference different streams via version number (myStream.0, myStream.1 etc) and still have tight control over which parts of that version to playback. Each version could be triggered every 24 hours say, for your daily recordings.
