# Generating thumbnails for live streams

Hello, I want wowza to generate thumbnails for live streams that are happening now, and recorded videos. Is that possible , I’m using Wowza 2.2.3.

With Wowza Media Server 3 and [Wowza Transcoder](https://www.wowza.com/addons/wowza-transcoder-addon) there is an HTTP Provider to capture a thumbnail image. For more information see this [article](https://www.wowza.com/docs/how-to-get-thumbnail-images-from-wowza-transcoder-with-an-http-provider). It’s a [free upgrade](https://www.wowza.com/tradeup) from Wowza Media Server 2 to 3.
