# Automatic video rate (transcoding?)

Hi,

(I’m pretty sure that was asked before, but I couldn’t find an answer)

We have a VOD (on-demand) video streaming site, and our movies are very heavy (1080p).

Sometimes, clients have low bandwidth and may encounter slow reaction/continuous buffering.

Is it possible to let the server decide if to convert on-the-fly to 720p/480p?

Hi,

Currently Wowza Streaming Engine cannot transcode On Demand (static file) content to other file renditions.

The Wowza Transcoder AddOn is currently only capable of transcoding live streams.

Hi,

Not currently. It’s something that Wowza Streaming Engine may do in the future though, but we don’t

have a time line for when.

The live Transcoder AddOn doesn’t have autonegotiation, it is pre-configured before a live broadcast to support pre-determined bandwidths.

Appreciate the input Daren.

Can I achieve the requirement with the Transcoder? Does it have “auto negotiation” and down conversion on the fly for lower quality?

Any information I can get on how to do it?
