# Audio-only Encoder band do well?

Hello there.

Software encoders are cheaper than hardware encoders, more flexible as far as settings options and easier to keep up to date.

Hardware encoders are specialized for just encoding, this means they are faster at encoding. The quality is comparable to software encoders but hardware encoders are not as flexible for altering the encoding.

You can get started right away by downloading the [Wirecast](http://telestream.net/wirecast/overview.htm?__c=1) encoder.
