Comparison between wowza and adobe

Hi All,

I’M stuck between the choice of wowza and adobe. Anyone can point out the advantage of wowza over adobe?

Currently this is what i found from adobe website , that adobe is a

a. Flash Media Interactive Server 3

b. Flash Media Streaming Server 3

c. Flash Media Right Management Server

d. Flash Media Encoding Server

Is wowza able to meet the above?

Thanks

Louis

Hi Luis,

A chart comparing Wowza Pro to both Adobe FMSS and FMIS is posted at https://www.wowza.com/comparison.html. As you will see Wowza Pro offers excellent economics, performance and many exclusive features you can’t even get with Adobe FMS3.

Also important to note that Wowza Pro has recently won the Streaming Media Magazine 2008 Readers’ Choice Award, beating Adobe FMS. You can find additional details at https://www.wowza.com/2008-09-30.html.

While we don’t offer encoding products, Wowza Pro is compatible with the widest range of both Flash and non-Flash (RTSP, RTP and MPEG-TS) encoders. FMS doesn’t work with non-Flash encoders. Wowza will also work with the content encoded by Flash Media Encoding Server (which is really a re-branded Rhozet CarbonCoder).

On the DRM side of thing, Wowza Pro has been tested with Widevine Flash DRM by one of our customers and found to be fully compatible. We have not tested with Adobe’s FMRMS.

If you are interested in additional details, please email me off forums to alex@wowza.com.

Take a look at the post titled What are some advantages of streaming over progressive download? at https://www.wowza.com/faq.html#h2.

Hope this answers your question.

Yes, SecureToken and RTMPE are all means for protecting streamed content from being pirated. SecureToken example that ships with Wowza Pro offers a high level of content protection against ripping threats like those posed by the Replay Media Catcher. RTMPE is a variant or RTMP that provides link encryption.

Take a look at the Wowza Pro Overview https://www.wowza.com/resources/WowzaMediaServer_Overview.pdf . SecureToken is also explained well in the Wowza Pro User’s Guide available at https://www.wowza.com/resources.html It will answer many of yor questions.

We have some customers who have deployed Wowza with Widevine but I don’t have a public example to point to. Unlike FMRMS, Widevines implementation does DRM for both live and on-demand content playable in the Flash player client with a Wdevine plug-in. FMRMS is only for the file content, and our understanding is that it only works with AIP applications, not the Flash player - see this article.

You best bet is to contact Wdevine. Wowza server is transparent to it. I know a Widevine contact in EU - email me off-forums to alex@wowza.com and I will provide an into.

Hi,

May i know whats the difference having flv file stream between http or wowza?

I believe i can upload a flv to a website and stream over httpd instead of using wowza. There must be some feature the wowza has advantage over streaming over httpd for flv files.

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks

Louis

Hi,

May i know what do you mean by

“SecureToken, RTMPE and other content security methodologies available in Wowza Pro further enhance content security.”

How does SecureToken and RTMPE secure the content? Do you mean wowza is able to prevent people from downloading the video to their pc?

Thanks

Louis

Hello,

I am trying to find an alternative to FMS + FMRMS to propose solution an advanced solution of DRM.

You say in this post that Wowza has already been used withe Widevine Cypher, have you an example of a deployment ?

Thank you in advance for your response

Thank you for your repsonse,

I saw that FMRMS is limited to AIR 2.0 but soon Flash Access 2.0 will propose a solution for air and flash player…

From what you told me there is no deployment Wowza + Widevine that i could see.

it’s difficult to know if this solution is stable and viable
